I often serve this dish at family gatherings. It doesn't look pretty, but it's one of our favourites.

Ingredients

Servings: 8
Yield: 8
  • 4 slices bacon
  • approx 1/2 lb of fresh green beans (I count out 6-7 beans per serving)
  • 4 tb unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tb soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F and line a 9x13 pan with foil.
  2. Boil a medium-sized saucepan of water and add the green beans. Boil for 1 minute and quickly drain and rinse with very cold water. (This part can be done ahead of time. Just leave the beans in the fridge.)
  3. Arrange groups of 5 or 6 beans in the prepared pan. Cut each bacon slice in half. Wrap one half slice of bacon around each bundle and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the sugar, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and cook for one minute, stirring, until the sugar melts.
  5. Brush the mixture evenly over the beans and bacon. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the bacon is cooked and well-browned.
