Mom's meaty spaghetti sauce

This is our go-to recipe for spaghetti sauce. It freezes really well, so consider doubling the recipe!

Ingredients

Yield:
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 lbs. lean ground beef
  •  
  • 1 x 1.36L can of tomato juice
  • 1 x 6 oz. can of tomato paste
  • 1 x 6 oz. can of tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • small handful of celery leaves, chopped
  •  
  • 1/2 tsp crushed chili peppers (optional)

Directions

  1. Brown onion in large pot with a teaspoon of cooking oil. When the onions are softened, add ground beef and cook until browned.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and stir well to combine. Simmer on low for 3-4 hours, stirring every hour or so, until thickened.
